Infrastructure: Tracked, Derailed and Crossing

“Infrastructure: Tracked, Derailed and Crossing” is a trilogy of postmodernist plays by German author Lia Wellisch. It is a fan fiction set in the real life universe and concerns itself with a group of supernatural beings, divided into black, white and grey tokens, that helps normal people in their struggle through life.

The protagonist, Jewel (Juwel in the original German) finds herself trapped in the role of a chosen being, but slowly finds a way of dealing with her powers without succumbing to the ancient rules the secret societies she dwells in have carved in stone.

Character tropes include:

The whole trilogy:

Juwel
- Bi The Way
- Deadpan Snarker
- Designated Hero
- Meaningful Name Lampshaded by herself in “Derailed”.
- What The Hell, Hero? Killing Simon in „Derailed“.
Adam/René
- Cynical Mentor
- Mean Boss
- Meaningful Name Subverted.
Ben Fürst
- Arthur Dent
Mina
- Ascended Extra
Tamtam
- Put on a bus Lampshaded. The actor himself puts the character on a bus.
Anna
- Ascended Extra
Gregor
- Dark Is Not Evil
Kassandra
- Femme Fatale
- Manipulative Bastard

Tracked only:

Dot (Punk in the Original)

- Only Known By Their Nickname
- Put on a Bus
Alexa
- Break The Cutie
Isa
- Control Freak
Pavel
Wilhelm
Anakryptichon
Page

Derailed only:

Dominik
Simon
Rebekka
Kathrin

Crossing only:
Lena
Marcel

The trilogy includes the following tropes:

Anachronic Order „Crossing“
Black And Grey Morality The main theme of the trilogy, actually.
Breaking The Fourth Wall A lot.
Cryptic Conversation A lot in „Tracked“, less so in the other two.
Dream Sequence Extremely dominant in „Tracked“.
Engineered Public Confession
Ensemble Darkhorse Arguably, the trilogy is as much about Adam as it is about Jewel.
Hannibal Lecture Mostly provided by Cassandra.
Invisible To Normals Mostly subverted. The tokens have to answer to the real world judical system.
Kiss Of Death Jewel gives Simon one in „Derailed“. Subverted and Lampshaded in „Crossing“, where Adam kisses Cassandra, but she doesn’t die from it.
Make It Look Like An Accident Marcel’s favourite pasttime.
Powers That Be Anakryptichon and Page in „Tracked“, the Players in „Derailed“.
Sibling Yin Yang. Lena and Cassandra.
Shout Out Subtle. In “Crossing”, Adam reads a book which is, according to him, from someone like Gregor about people like Gregor. Some interpret that book as the Daimones Trilogy by German author Matthias Niklas, which shares some of Infrastructure’s themes, and has a protagonist with some similarities to Gregor.
Starts With A Suicide „Crossing“, although it’s a covered up murder.
